Massimo Pani is a senior security and crisis-management professional with more than thirty years of operational and strategic experience. A Lieutenant Colonel in the Italian Carabinieri, he currently serves as Security Expert at the Italian Embassy in Skopje, where he supports international cooperation on resilience, crisis preparedness, and risk governance. He has previously led multinational crisis-response and stability-policing activities within NATO and the European Union, coordinating inter-agency teams and contributing to the design of crisis-management frameworks for complex environments. His work bridges practical field experience with strategic policy development, focusing on how technology and leadership can jointly strengthen organizational resilience. In recent years, Massimo has turned his analytical and research interests toward the intersection of artificial intelligence and security governance, studying how trustworthy data, simulation, and information integrity can enhance foresight and preparedness. He has articulated this thinking through the concept of “Rehearsal Intelligence”—the use of AI-driven digital-twin models as an emerging approach to crisis readiness. A co-author of articles for MIT Sloan Management Review, he contributes to international discussions on resilience, crisis foresight, and the ethical use of AI in security operations. Certified CPP (ASIS International) and AMBCI (Business Continuity Institute), Massimo combines leadership experience, institutional insight, and a forward-looking view of technology’s role in security.
