Laurence Perkins

Head of Security, University of Leicester
Laurence Perkins joined the University of Leicester in 2008, he was previously the Security Operations Manager before promotion to the Head of Security in January 2018. Prior to joining the University, he spent 6 years in the banking sector where he was a Branch Manager.

Laurence has a Degree in Security & Risk Management and is extremely determined to improve security professionalism and standards at the university. He is the Midlands Chair for the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO) and led his team to security team of the year, collecting the award in 2018. His focus is on service delivery, ensuring his team deliver an effective holistic approach to keeping his community safe, and has invested in technology such as Safezone and Indoor Positioning Beacons to support this. All universities in the UK currently face similar issues regarding security training and standards; Laurence is willing to share his skills and experience to further enhance security training for all Universities and Colleges. As a qualified trainer, he has developed team training days, probation training, incident report writing and a four-day induction course. To widen his research on campus training standards, in 2015 Laurence participated in the AUCSO International Exchange programme, visiting the National University of Singapore.
