Before Assuming his current position he served in two consequitive postings as the EU Ambassador to Kazakhstan (2021-2024) and Azerbaijan (2017-2021). In 2015-2017 he led the EU Monitoring mission (EUMM) in Georgia.
Kestutis Jankauskas started his career in 1991 as a Lithuanian diplomat. He was posted to Sweden, United States and twice to Brussels, as Lithuanian Ambassador to the EU Political and Security committee (2005-2008) and ambassador to NATO (2011-2015). During his career, he worked on security policy issues, led the Security Policy Department in the MFA and served as a State Secretary of the MFA in 2009-2011.
He graduated from History at the Vilnius University.
