Joanna Konings

Senior Economist International Trade, ING Research
Joanna Konings is a senior economist working on international trade issues at ING Bank. She joined ING from the Bank of England, where she supported the setting of UK monetary policy during 2013-2017 through analysis and forecasts of UK inflation. Prior to the Bank, Joanna worked at the UK's finance ministry, HM Treasury, also specialising in inflation. Joanna studied philosophy, politics and economics at Durham University and holds an MSc in economics from Birkbeck, University of London.

Joanna's research for ING has focused on global structural changes affecting international trade flows, including to infrastructure, trade policy, and global value chains. The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated developments in each of these areas, and Joanna's writing and speaking over the last year has considered the risks from shifting trade alliances, government rescue packages and globalised supply chains.
